Bishop United Methodist Church in Bishop, Georgia

on August 20, 2006, celebrated the 100-year celebration of the founding of their church in 1906.

A brief History of Bishop United Methodist Church

In 1905, as Lallie Virginia Johns traveled with her parents to attend worship in Farmington, GA, she asked her Mother, "Why can't we have a church in Bishop?"  Her question stirred the faith and the imagination of a community, especially the Rev. Benjamin Henry Mobley.  His efforts led to the creation of Bishop Methodist Episcopal Church, South.

John W. Chandler sold the board of trustees the land to build the new church, September 28, 1905.  On July 12, 1906, Rev. Mobley reported to the District Conference that the church was completed at a cost of $1,800.  Dr. John B. Robbins, at the invitation of Mr. Marcellus Branch, a member of the Farmington Methodist Church, preached the sermon at the Dedication Service on August 19, 1906.
